Social Security Donates Computer to Alexandra Hospital
On Monday 7th July 2008 a brief ceremony was held at the Pharmacy of the Alexandra Hospital for the purpose of handing over a Dell computer valued at $3306.47 by Social Security to the Ministry of Health on Nevis. Mr. Walter Morton Public Relations Officer chaired the programme and in his opening remarks indicated that it was a great pleasure for Social Security to be once again donating equipment that would assist greatly with improving the quality of health care on the island of Nevis.
The invocation of blessings on the ceremony was done by Social Security staff member Mr. Gareth Forbes and the official statement and handover was done by Mr. Elvin Bailey, Assistant Director of Research and Statistics and Public Relations. In his remarks Mr. Bailey indicated that Social Security was delighted to partner with the Ministry of Health in bringing affordable health care to the people of the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis and the people of Nevis in particular, citizens and residents alike.
Dr. Cardell Rawlins, Chief of Staff of the Alexandra accepted the gift on behalf of the Ministry of Health. He expressed his gratitude for the gift which he indicated was very timely. He also said that he hopes this partnership with Social Security would continue as he looks forward for many more donations in the future. He encouraged other businesses to get on board and show some support to health care on the island of Nevis.
The vote of thanks was given by Pharmacist Mr. Loston Nisbett who would be involved in using the computer in his daily tasks. He indicated that the computer would be used to store patients’ information and that it would facilitate smoother transactions involving the filling and re-filling of prescriptions. He made a comparison of the old system under which the records were kept in note books to the present computerized system that has improved the standard of service greatly. He expressed sincere thanks to Social security for making life easier for the staff at the pharmacy.

The ceremony was short but very impressive. The Social Security Board continues to demonstrate in a tangible way its concerns for the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in its committed program of donations to the health sector.
